Creating application pools

Hi,

Maybe an incorrect title... Here's what I'm trying to do:

We have a portal that needs to be monitored. So, if either the Database is down, or the server itself is down, the URL availability should be recorded.

Is it possible to create a group - Server + Database Server / Instance / DB + URL ? Something similar to defining an application and the key parts - failure of any of which should create alerts for the portal as a whole...

As I was typing this question, light dawns on marblehead and I realize, this is what management packs are for. We define Availability within which, various components that define availability are defined.

Is there an easy way for a beginner in SCOM learn and do this? Is there another way without a custom management pack?

Thanks all for your patience till I understand this :)

Bug in APM monitoring for a Web Application named root?

$

If you define APM monitoring for a Web Application named root, say Default Web Site/root, you fail because of an issue (or bug) in APM.

In the normal case APM creates a web-application-specific set of instances of the.NET Apps performance counters. This happens as soon as the first request is processed by the application (after proper configuration of course).

If your application is called:

Default Web Site/xyz

you’ll get .NET Apps counter instance:

_LM_W3SVC_1_ROOT_xyz

However, if your web application is named root, the performance counter instance:

_LM_W3SVC_1_ROOT_root

is never be created.

My guess because of an APM bug related to string manipulation (the two times root?).

The issue is also present for deeper nested sites like Default Web Site/SomeVirtualDirectory/root

This issue was discovered in SCOM 2012 R2 UR4.

I will run a MS support case on this

Operations Manager APM Data Transfer Service

Hi,

We are getting the following alert in our SCOM 2012 installation.

"APM Data Transfer encountered an error. This could be a temporary issue. Please see the alert context for more details about the specific error encountered."

Details:

"The specified number of hours between data warehouse synchronizations has been exceeded. Hours: 13 Workflow name: Microsoft.SystemCenter.Apm.DataTransferRule Instance name: Operations Manager APM Data Transfer Service Instance"

I am unable to find any reason for this, there's nothing in the event logs for the server stating that any DW Grooming isn't working, nor can I find any other reference to this, we don't use APM at all in the infrastructure at present, can anyone shed any light on this error?

Thanks,

JW

How to configure in-house Windows Azure application with System Center 2012

Hi Team,

Could you please share the step by step configuration of in-house Windows Azure application monitoring  with System Center 2012.

Thnx

AppAdvisor has very few events for one application.

I have a two applications (A and B) monitored by APM, with thousands of events showing up for each in AppDiagnostics.

When I go to AppAdvisor for application A and view the Application Performance Analysis, the 'event count' listed in the graphs is high (400+), as I would expect given so much available data.

When I go to AppAdvisor for application B and view the Application Performance Analysis, the 'event count' is very low (3-5 events) which seems incorrect to me, given that there are thousands of events during this timeframe that could have been used for analysis.

I've compared the APM setups, and they are identical. Am I misunderstanding how these reports are populated, or is something wrong with my setup?

Thanks,

-Matt

Applications Monitored using SCOM

Hi,

Any idea about what different types of applications can be monitored using SCOM. And whether these are available by default or had to import some external management packs. Also, any limitations of SCOM for APM?

Why is Request Count zero in the "Application Status" AppAdvisor-report?

Hi gurus

We have a lot of useful data in our AppAdvisor reports (like the Application Status report).

However, for some reason the Request Count is always showing as zero in the reports, even though we have many requests.Any idea why?

Also I'd like to know if there is a way to scale the y-axis?

AppAdvisor report Application Status showing zero Request Count

Thanks

Application Diagnostics: Rule Management Wizard

I am looking for documentation for SCOM 2012 (APM), Application Diagnostic in particular how to use the Rules Management Wizard.

I am looking for examples on how to use a condition value for 'Event Data' the populated example is

//stackPoint/method[not(starts-with(text(),"System.")) and not(starts-with(text(),"Microsoft."))]

I am also looking for examples on how to use the condition value for 'Description' I would like to use a wildcard in this value but I can seem to get it to work unless it is a full match even thou the description is set to 'like'. I would prefer to see more conditional options than just 'like' and 'not like' I would like to of seen 'starts with', 'ends with' and 'contains' are just a few examples.

monitor apps in Azure for e.g. sitecore webapps

We have deployed SiteCore applications in azure. We use Azure IaaS and not PaaS services.  So is there a way for us to monitor the sitecore apps through SCOM? if so, how can we set up the SCOM infrastructure - in terms of servers we need, AD set up etc., Currently we don't Sync AD with azure. Azure is separate where IT remote into the VM and develop apps and publish to different region and we are using traffic manager (not CDN).  As we finish the sitecore deployment, we need to find a way to monitor the apps and sql databases etc., what's the best practice? thankyou

Hello,<o:p></o:p>

We have
System Center Operations Manager 2007 installed on our environment. We are receiving
to many alerts for “Failed to ping or bind to the Infrastructure/Schema/Domain
Naming Master FSMO role holder” on Domain controller. I check and found OOMADS.mis
file is already installed and present on all the client machines. <o:p></o:p>

These alert are usually generated during Patch deployment while these FSMO role folder
getting rebooted. Although FSMO role folder are only rebooted during their maintenance
window (which is midnight). But alerts get generated and while we check the
alert (in the morning) it is already resolved as FSMO came online after reboot.<o:p></o:p>

I am
working on to stop generation of these alert. Could anyone help/suggest me on
this.<o:p></o:p>

Unable to see some MS Exchange counters on MOM 2005

Hi All,

I am trying to build a performance graph on MOM 2005 SP1 for an Exchange Server 2007. I need to add RPC Requests and RPC Averaged Latency but i am not able to see them on MOM console. If  i check those counters directly on Exchange MBX server they exist.  (On MOM other performance counters such as mapi-connectivity, log generation are available, only IS related counters are missing)

There are totally 6 CCR 2007 are monitored and for other 5 servers, counters are available on MOM. Only missing for this server. I have re-installed MOM agent on active node of the cluster successfully but still counters are missing. If i failover CCR to other node, it is same, no counters available.

Any idea? Thanks in advance

Hi Team

1 ) We are currently Using SCOM 2012, where we have used Form based Authentication for App Advisor and Diagnostics. Is there a Way to Restict Groups for Individual Users in App Diagnostics and Advisor .

We are currently Monitoring 20 Application each belog to Different Application Owners, When they Login to App Diagnostics are App Advisor they should be able to view only their Application, But as of now its listing all the Application

We are aware that we can Create Individual application Groups in App Diagnostics , but still when we login we can Chnage the application Groups as per our wish.. this becomes a Security concern for other App Teams..

2 )  Is there any Report which can Provide the Trend of the Events in the App Diagnostics or App Advisor  like we need the Total No of Event for the Month of Feb, Mar , Apr,  and see how its been Reduced  and we can Work on that

3) Is there a Way to Export all the Event from App Diagnostics to CSV,or Excel or any other Format..

Request your help on this as its one of the Major Requirement from the Application Team

SCOM 2012 - Visual Studio Web Test - Cannot retrieve downloaded test results / share not configured

$

Hello-

I am trying to get my Visual Studio web test to work in SCOM 2012. I have configured the run-as account, and set the correct overrides for the Alert attachment file share discovery. I followed this guide to the T: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj899889.aspx

When I Select the site that I want to download the test result file for, The results pane shows the following error:
"The share does not seem to be configured in the Alert Attachment Management Pack"

When I attempt to download the result file without manually entering creds, it fails. When I do enter creds, in the "task history" it shows as succeeded, but I get no results. All subsequent automatic "Retrieve previously..." fail. In the "task history", the "Run As" column is blank (unless I manually enter the credentials, which doesn't do me any good, anyway)

My "Alert Attachment" MP is inside another MP I created, along with the "System Center Global Service Monitor VS Web Test" MP and two other System Center MPs. This created MP is the one that my Alert Attachment Overrides are attached to.

My Run-As account has the needed permissions to the file share, so I am lost as to why this isn't working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
