Sharepoint 2010 - Internal Execution Time

Hi,

We are running SharePoint 2010 & I'm afraid that the performance is terribly slow. Within SCOM APM I can see the SharePoint API calls, DB Connections, SQL Client calls etc. & they are responding within milliseconds. My problem is that I am seeing 97% of the time taken as 'Internal Execution Time' - can someone help me in figuring out what this is?

Is there something I can 'switch on' within APM to enable me to find out what code is running in this Internal Execution Time?

Any & all help appreciated but I'm from an OP's background, not a developer so my knowledge of coding at this level is limited.
