Hi All,
I have a simple general question. Rather business then technical.
I have a client whom I supporting implementing a business software (300+ user).
Now they are keep bugging us for monitoring and that it should be our responsibility that the tool (Java-based) is monitored properly on application base. I keep arguing that this is not the right way. Monitoring is beyond our core competence and others as e.g. dynaTrace, AppDyanmics, OpNET and so on are specialized in this and that it makes more sense to go for a 3rd party tool.
Now instead of spending a few bugs and get over with we have to build complex workarounds with less outcome just to fit their idea of us being responsible.
What would your approach be to this? Is it justified as a tool provider to say APM is not my discipline and I am responsble for functionality? Maybe not exclusively but mainly functionality and of course I make sure it runs properly, but when in production something occurs of which the root cause is not clear shouldn't it be the client elaborating on this?
Thanks.
